The Social Distance Classroom

Updated: Sep 21, 2020

Monday!

Monday!

Monday has always been labelled as the worse day of the week. Especially Monday mornings. Well then, with that said in mind… this upcoming Monday morning I will be teaching my first ever socially distance lesson.

Am I nervous about it?

No.

Anxious?

No.

Excited?

YES!

Mondays to me have always been the start of the week and the start of a new challenge.

The art of teaching has always been about the exchange of knowledge from one individual to another. The form in which this takes place has forever changed in education. From chanting timetables, copying from the board, reading aloud as a class, worksheets, lessons on zoom and now the socially distanced classroom.

But what if I make a mistake or my lesson doesn’t go to plan? A question I have asked myself several times this week.

As educators we tell our students it’s okay to make mistakes as it is part of the learning process. So why do we think as adults think that we can’t make mistakes?

Trying to fit students into a room or getting the students to maintain social distancing whilst in the building will always be a challenge, but the important thing about next week is that if a mistake does happen, I learn, adapt and overcome.

Teaching has always been a challenge, and here at MidKent we always welcome new challenges and overcome them in style.

So, to next Monday I say…bring it on.

To be continued…
